This seminar provides practical guidance for Filipino academics on designing, conducting, analysing, and publishing online research, from ethics approval through to manuscript submission.

Conducting Online Research with a Filipino Sample: From Research Question Development and Ethics Approval to Statistical Analysis

Filipino academics deserve stronger representation in global scholarship as they have the capacity to produce impactful work that informs policy, improves educational outcomes and strengthens professional practice, with an aim of improving the lives of Filipinos especially those in the homeland. This seminar provides practical guidance on conducting online research with Filipino participants. You will learn how to develop research questions in line with common methodologies and choose appropriate statistical analyses. The focus is on designing a feasible research project that answers clear questions and tests the viability of hypotheses in a practical way. Beginning with ethics approval, this seminar offers strategies to help you meet key requirements commonly requested by both Human Research Ethics Committees and Filipino ethics review bodies. It then covers online data-collection using a survey platform such as Qualtrics and explains how to analyse data without becoming overwhelmed by complex mathematics. The seminar will also show you how to write clearly and structure arguments logically, particularly in the Introduction, which lays the foundation for your research questions and ultimately your results. The seminar will end with a discussion on how to prepare your manuscript for submission after selecting an appropriate high-ranking journal for your study.

The ANU Philippines Institute Research Seminar Series is a recurring seminar series that showcases the work of scholars working on political, social and cultural issues in the Philippines and the wider region, with the goal of encouraging greater exchange, collaboration and networking amongst the research community.
