Coral Bell School to co-host OCIS 2027 with USP

The Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs will co-host the 12th Oceanic Conference on International Studies (OCIS) in 2027, in partnership with The University of the South Pacific (USP).

The conference will run from 7 to 9 July 2027 at USP in Suva, Fiji. OCIS is Oceania's largest gathering for international studies, held every two years and bringing together scholars, postgraduate students, practitioners and community researchers from across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.

This year's theme is Pluralism and Hope: World Politics and Pacific International Relations. The programme will consider how pluralism can serve as a foundation for a more inclusive global order, and how a politics of hope might emerge from a recognition of plural worldviews, knowledges and methods.

The organising committee includes Professor Kirsten Ainley, Salā Dr George Carter, Professor George Lawson, Romitesh Kant, Associate Professor Sandra Tarte, and Dr Milla Vaha.

OCIS 2027 is now accepting proposals for panels, roundtables, individual papers and innovative sessions. Submissions close 31 October 2026, at 11.59pm Fiji time | 10.59am Canberra time. Submit your proposal here. 

The programme particularly welcomes contributions from Pacific-based scholars, practitioners, policymakers and postgraduate and early career researchers.

Presentation themes include Pacific and Oceanic Politics, Climate and Ocean Politics, Security Studies, Indigenous, First Nations and Decolonial Approaches, and International Political Economy, among others.
