The Institute welcomes members of the general public to attend lectures given by notable figures in the field of Chinese studies. Upcoming presenters include Professor Anthony C. Yu of the University of Chicago.

The Institute holds thematic seminar series consisting of 4-6 seminars a number of times each year. In additional, occasional seminars for visiting academics are also hosted by the Institute.

The Institute holds conferences on an annual basis. The next conference, China’s Rural Development: Gender Politics, Social Equity and Citizenship, will be held August 14-15, 2009, at the Australian National University.

The last film series, held October 29 - December 3, 2008, was a selection of six documentaries from Yunfest, an independent film festival based in Kunming. The screenings were organized jointly with the Research School of Humanities.
