The ANU China Institute
Aims:
The ANU China Institute combines the research and teaching talents of the ANU's academics to bring greater focus to our collective activities and to highlight the work of the largest group of China specialists in Australia. The ANU China Institute works to promote China Studies at the ANU and at the national and international levels, in consultation and collaboration with a range of organizations. The abiding attention given to the Chinese world (the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Chinese diaspora) in Australia and internationally provides us with new opportunities to enhance the work of ANU China scholars, and to showcase our achievements in research, education and outreach activities. Structure:
The ANU China Institute is an inclusive, representative umbrella institute consisting of ANU staff and students across all disciplines, engaged in education and research on any aspect of the Chinese world: the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Chinese diaspora. Members:
At present the ANU has over 50 academics doing research on China (including several who rank among the very top China specialists in the world) and enrolls many postgraduate students in the field. Although located in the College of Asia and the Pacific, the Institute serves scholars in Chinese studies throughout the university. Governance:
The Institute is governed by a board comprising representatives of the various constituencies of Chinese Studies scholars across the campus. The board members are: Professor Geremie Barmé, Department of Pacific and Asian History, RSPAS Dr Chunlai Chen, Crawford School of Economics and Governance Professor John Minford, China and Korea Centre, Faculty of Asian Studies Dr Benjamin Penny (Chair), Department of Pacific and Asian History, RSPAS Professor Jonathan Unger, Contemporary China Centre, Division of Society and the Environment, RSPAS |
